Wow. What's fascinating about this is that I imagine the school doesn't understand the enormity of the cuts. The sciences (the biological ones for sure, and likely the other natural sciences as well) fund their grad students with department money for the first year, and then grant money after that. I suspect engineering has some kind of mechanism in place too, and of course we know what happens with the biz kids. Neuro students rarely teach (and frankly can't afford to given how long each experiment takes.) So the school is essentially sacrificing their Humanities and Social Sciences programs, which are the departments that already receive the least support.
Ah, be careful about burning bridges today that you may wish to cross tomorrow. The trick is knowing which those are.
