So, teaching has begun. After a fall filled with research and settling in our new digs, it is full speed ahead. I have been surprised at how important administrative stuff essential for the good of the program has been neglected because no one has taken ownership of it. I have (foolishly) spent many hours on it when in the long rung, I know service has little impact on promotion decisions. It is frustrating when you know this stuff needs to be addressed but at the same time, any time spent away from research is considered time poorly spent. LLF is a complete joy, and I am trying to spend what time I can with him, but now with teaching on top of the rest, it is becoming a juggling act worthy of a circus performer. My strategy now is to just throw the balls upwards as high as possible and try to forget that they soon will all come crashing down together.
